"As the review's title implies, it's not your typical production of an ALW musical. No elaborate sets, simple costumes, and a lot more big screen projections. But I think it worked - it helped blur the line between reality and theater, which is what, of course, Norma Desmond is going through. Overall, I didn't think the songs were up to ALW's normal high standards, but three or four were quite enjoyable. The cast performed well."

Remarkable Talent and Creativity !
"Beyond what one sees on the stage from the primary stars and ensemble, this show demonstrates extraordinary talent and creativity in lighting, sound, choreography and music. The tension never lets up. The protagonists portray deep emotion, personal flaws and humanity. This is a tragedy in the deepest sense, brought to the audience so that it is felt deeply. An outstanding and powerful production. Kudos to all the scores of talented people who brought this to the stage!"

A rare gem that exceeded our expectations. All the hype is justified.
"Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis don't disappoint. The raves are deserved for both. The entire cast is on fire -- excellent. A tremendous triumph for Jamie Lloyd, bringing this modern and risk-taking revival to Broadway from the West End. We were on the edge of our seats.
Bravo!!👏👏👏"

Brilliant.
"Wonderful production….
Cast was excellent.
Do try to sit in the center orchestra if possible; intense lighting from the wings is difficult on the eyes in some parts of the performance. "

"The whole cast are amazing, the staging is minimalist, you get the sense of stepping back into a black and white movie.
The main characters portrayed the drama and pathos so well, spellbinding, surprising moments that take you beyond the theatre walls."

The best show I have seen in years
"A mind-blowing reinvention of this musical. I am not a huge ALW fan but each time I see one of his shows, I’m reminded of how good his music can actually be. This production combines a lush score with a visual palette grounded in film noir. If Billy Wilder directed an opera, it would look like this. The performers are uniformly excellent. It’s half musical, half movie, and totally engrossing theater. I’ve had my hopes dashed at many, many shows over the years — more flash than heart, more saccharine than depth. After so many so-so productions, “Sunset Blvd.” was a deeply appreciated correction and restoration. Nothing but superlatives. "

Wow Wow Wow
"A Lasting Impression: Sunset Boulevard as a Broadway Triumph
Leaving the theater, I was overcome with emotion. My heart felt both full and broken—full from the beauty I had witnessed, and broken by the aching tragedy of Norma’s fate.
Sunset Boulevard on Broadway is not merely a show—it is an experience. It is a dazzling, haunting, and deeply moving work of art that celebrates the allure and heartbreak of Hollywood’s golden age. It is a reminder of the fragile line between dreams and delusions, fame and obscurity, love and despair.
As I walked away from the theater, the music still echoing in my ears, I knew I had witnessed something truly extraordinary—a production that will linger in my heart forever. If you have the chance to see Sunset Boulevard on Broadway, do not hesitate. It is a masterpiece that will sweep you away, break your heart, and leave you grateful for having been a part of it.

This is how you give a classic Broadway show a new life. It is remarkable !
"I have been a broadway geek since 1958. Never have I experienced such a performance by a leading lady...and what a standing ovation !!!! Nicole S brought Norma Desmond to life in so many ways. It was all there...melancoly,humor dramatic acting, sadness and what a voice!!!! Technically this show was remarkable The use of the live video allows the audience to experience the heartbreak and the joy of each character. It was so clever and hopefully will be used more on Broadway"

Beautiful Retelling of a Classic!
"Loved the foggy staging, acting and voices! The score is outstanding as always! Loved the ending but the shooting ending with the bloody Norma was not easily perceived due to the strobing effects. Also the very beginning was a bit odd. Not sure people would understand he’s coming out of a body bag. I also didn’t like the lack of the actual dead chimp. It sets the stage for Norma’s eccentricity so if you miss the lyrical mention, you may be a bit confused. I have seen this show many times in the past as well as the movie so I knew what was happening but we were with friends who at times became confused as to what was happening. Overall I thought it was a masterpiece!"

It was amazing.
"This was so much better for me than I anticipated. I was a bit concerned when I read no sets or props - and there weren’t but the ACTING made up for it! The singing dancing all of it was on spot. I have loved this movie for a long time but if you aren’t family with it you may want to view before. The story was very obvious to me but not so much to my brother who was only going from context clues in the production. "

Broadway Show Of The Year!
"Just got back from NYC where I saw 5 great shows, BUT...if you want to be blown away, go see Sunset Blvd. I haven't been to a theatre in years where there were 3 standing ovations during the show. A Marvelous Tragedy
"Nicole Scherzinger made me cry, gave me goosebumps, was absolutely stellar in her performance as Norma Desmond.
Most of the supporting cast were outstanding singers, including the gal who played Betty, but I thought she was miscast, and that is the only reason I gave it four stars and not five. The singer had an incredible soprano voice — and it may have been a voiceleading issue — but I thought thought the music wasn’t sung properly. The switch between the chest or belting voice to the head voice seemed unnatural or forced. I know of singers that can sing the songs Betty sings without having to switch back and forth, so the wrong voice type was likely cast improperly. Maybe others didn’t notice that sort of thing? It’s minor, and I’m being picky, but I noticed.
The fellow who played Max was amazing!
So overall, yes, I would recommend it.

Great show, edgy take on a film noir.
"The cast, especially the leads, were outstanding. The set design and use of cameras and screens was unique, and on point for a show about the film industry of the 1940's. I had seen the movie years ago, so I knew what was going to happen, yet the ending was still shocking and dramatic.
The overall effect created a sense of fear and disquiet that comes with people who are not in their right mind.
The only point that I felt was slightly weak was the music. I can't say any of it was memorable. However, the performance of the music was excellent."

About
Sunset Boulevard
Haunted by her memories and dreams, movie star Norma Desmond yearns to return to the big screen. A struggling screenwriter who can’t sell his scripts to the Hollywood studios may be her only hope, until their dangerous and captivating relationship leads to disaster. Drenched in champagne and cynicism, Sunset Boulevard focuses the lens on the ambitions and frustrations of its characters and puts their intoxicating need for fame and adoration in stark close-up.
